Man U
We had a request for a Manchester United quilt last fall. Luckily TGQ is familiar with Premier League teams and knew to look online for licensed merchandise for the Red Devils. 😊
We found a bedding set online and this was our starting point. It’s interesting working with licensed fabrics. In some cases, really quality fabric - like Rifle Paper. There are photos and story in the “Royal Wedding” journal entry to learn more about it. Anyway, it was a great surprise when it arrived. It was a pleasure to sew. Other times the quality is chintzy, fabric feels thin, printing isn’t always well done, etc. Below is a photo of how the bedding was advertised for use.
Once it arrived, we washed it and took it apart. This was a fabric that needed some help, so a stabilizer was added to the back of both pieces to make it easier to work with and wear better over the years. We use Rowley Stabilizer which is an iron on product and wonderful.
After the fabrics were prepared, we decided the final size and used solids to make borders to get the top to that size. The back had a larger black border added so it would have the necessary extra six inches in length and width to accommodate the long arm.
For this quilt, since the panel was the focal, we decided white thread and a fun edge-to-edge quilt pattern called “fire”. The collage below shows the pattern and thread up close.
Just like a panel quilt goes together quickly, so does a journal entry on it. Here is the final product all ready to go home. And good news, the footy fan loved the quilt!
Until we can all see sports “live” again, we hope you enjoyed a little Manchester United. By the way, the final score? TGQ 1 - Man U nil.
